Irises from the garden, 2025. "NOID" means "no ID", that is to say, I don't know their names. The noids in this group are all three in the street island garden and were there when I inherited it; the one identified as 'Benton Deirdre' is tentative - I decided it is that based on a combination of appearance and the recent trendiness of the Benton irises. The unnamed Pacific Coast hybrid was a random seedling child of random seedlings. The name and date in brackets is the breeder and the date of the cultivar's registration or introduction to commerce.

I have blue bearded iris NOIDS in my garden, that came from my sister's, that came from my mother's, that came from my grandparent's garden.

For me, it really is. My grandparents' garden fed our family for decades. My childhood visits always included time in the garden. One early morning, grandma let me go outside in my pajamas and bare feet and showed me how to collect portulaca (moss rose) seeds.

Pretty pretty. I clearly have preconceived notions about what colors irises can be. I scrolled along, then hit the dragon's beard ones. "Whoa!" out loud. (I live alone. I still talk aloud in the house sometimes).
